Filipino Dating – Is Age An Issue?

 

If you have dated western women all of your adult life and then start dating an Asian girlfriend, then you are in for a bit of a culture shock.

To put it simply, Asian women are different.

An Asian girlfriend is not what you are use to.  Any local women you have gone out with will have attitude, demands and is more interested in the “self” than the “couple”.  An Asian girlfriend though?  She is more like the American woman from the 1950’s.  She has a strong sense of family and is predisposed to submissive behavior.

Most western feminists would reel back in horror at that statement, but I doubt they are reading this.  You are though and you are looking for a lifelong partner.  So let’s explore this almost mythical submissive nature of Asian women. First off, where did it come from?  Like most things in society, it has a cultural basis.

Most regions in East Asia started with a tribal system of government.  Modern borders are realistically just lines on a map – think of them as societies within a “country”. In these societies, men and women had their respective roles to ensure the success of their families and the society as a whole.  There was survival in numbers and working together. The men shielded the community from external threats and the women took care of keeping up the home. Concrete towers have replaced tribal settlements centuries on, but these roles in Asian society are still played out today, even with women empowerment and more liberal style of thinking.

Generally women in East Asia these days have active careers, but they are expected to put family and the home first at every point. In a way, most houses in Asia have assistants (e.g. live in maids or drivers), even the middle class families, because of these roles. The assistants are there because the lady of the household needs somebody to maintain the house while she is going to the office or helping run the family business.  And if they don’t have maids, then they often live in a multi-generation home where there are grandparents, aunts, uncles or sisters to help share the work load.

Men are meant to be bringing home the bacon for the family and are not expected to contribute to doing the household chores. Girls are trained early on to serve the men and they are brought up with an expectation of family comes first.What does this mean to you? Your Asian girl could be more traditional than you believe, but this does not suggest you have to be slack romantically. She is your partner, not your maid.  Put in some effort to show you care -

Make Dinner

Most of the world renown chefs in the world are men.  So don’t take the line that you can’t cook. Take some responsibility for providing for your family and make dinner a few nights a week if you can. This may take a bit of planning especially if you normally work late, but it’ll be definitely worth it. If you can’t start cooking, at least offer to finish it off.

Give Her a Massage

Touch is a highly sensual experience.  And Asian women have very sensitive skin.  So why not treat her to a massage. Having a legitimate massage in Manila is very cheap ($10 for 2 hours) and she might have gotten one at least once a week to distress from a busy week.  Why not treat her to the same?  And if you do it right, you never know what might happen after.

Don’t Be A Slob – Pick Up After Your Self

Because an Asian girlfriend is wired to take care of household jobs, she’ll find it sweet if you can lighten her load by putting your own things away.  She is not your mother and is not there to pick up after you.  Remember, if she has less to do round the house, she’s going to have more free time to spend with you.
